Fitness Nuggets

Take Control of Your Weight Loss

When it comes right down to it, the best way to burn fat is to reduce the number of calories you consume and increase your level of physical activity. If you provide less quick energy for your body in the first place, fat becomes a more likely source of fuel. This provides fat burning around the clock, not just during your workout.

You can only reduce your caloric intake so much without becoming ill, so exercise becomes important to weight loss. The more calories you burn during your workout, the more weight you will lose. So, it stands to reason that the highest calorie burning exercises will burn the most fat. If that’s your goal, you should consider intense workouts such as cross-country skiing, biking, running, jumping rope, and boxing. If none of these exercises is your cup of tea, however, they are certainly not the right fat-burning exercises for you. If you don’t like the exercise enough to do it frequently, it won’t burn more calories for you.

The trick to burning the most fat possible is to find the highest calorie-burning workout you enjoy and stick to it regularly. If you get bored easily, it makes sense to switch between exercises or to try interval training. Whatever keeps you consistently physically active for the most time will burn the most fat for you. Based on information from the Mayo Clinic, the following is a list of common exercises listed from greatest calorie burn to least.
  • Jumping rope
  • Tae kwon do
  • Stair treadmill
  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Jogging
  • Tennis
  • High impact aerobics
  • Backpacking
  • Ice-skating
  • Racquetball
  • Stationary rowing
  • Cross country skiing
  • Swimming laps
  • Hiking
  • Water skiing
  • Low impact aerobics
  • Downhill skiing
  • Softball or baseball
  • Golfing (including carrying clubs)
  • Water aerobics
  • Leisurely bicycling (under 10 mph)
  • Tai chi
  • Volleyball
  • Walking
  • Canoeing
  • Bowling
  • Ballroom dancing
  • Weightlifting
  • Leisurely Walking
Start at the top of the list and find the highest calorie burning exercises that work for you. Now that’s how to burn fat!

All your ideas, the web page and the use of wikis, will make your students much more independent and responsible, one of our ultimate goals. If we would start these routines during the elementary grades your job would be considerably easier. Many students still need help with organizational strategies, but as with anything else, early intervention is important.

Newman's Last Stand

As we come to an end of another chapter in our digital lives, this by far has been well worth it. I can go back as far as the very first assignment opening a gmail account to bookmarking man I really enjoyed this class it taught me a whole lot on ways to implement technology in the classroom.

First, I going to develop a webpage for the Physical Education department through our school website. It will have information pertaining to assignments, rules and regulations, uniform order sheet, grading policy, course syllabus and much more, this will help cut down on making hundreds of copies to pass out to students now they'll be responsible for viewing this information online and at their own convenience.

Secondly, my wikispace need some attention I understand how it work, it just need to be dress up a little. This will be a site where students can go to and get makeup work to improve on their grade, but most importantly it will give a student the resource to view other sites related to Physical Education. Also, importing some real life action photos from class to display students efforts at hand and to see themselves having fun.

Lastly, I going to continue to work to better myself  to become more than a novice but an expert at this. Everything from podcasting, blogging, tweeting, starting a website on my own becoming versatile in all areas of technology that's where I want to end up. Using the Web 2.0 tools will increase my awareness for the digital age. I have a vision I need a little push to help me write it and make it plain.

Socially Booked

My Diigo account name is warrior2

The value of social bookmarking as we know it is ever changing the way we use technology. Coming from someone who really don't know a whole lot about it and still trying to develop some  skill for it is just remarkable. I already started to identify how my favorite bar actually works....please don't laugh. This has been a great experience in the whole realm of things continuing to keep up with the changes of the internet is qiute an adventure. As I look at ways to help my fellow colleagues I going to first ask them if they know anything about bookmarking if they do then they probably can help me if not then we should get a tutorial. Imagine all teachers getting online using these tools to improve thier lives professionally. I can see one day every teacher joining and/or forming groups using Diigo or Delicious or some other site and be totally commited to the digital age so schools can succeed all at once. Once schools are connected then students will be connected and this will change the face of education forever.

RSS FeEdS

Dealing with RSS has taught me to appreciate the usage of technology and how to engage in all its resources. This has really helped me in managing some of my favorite sites. By categorizing all my sites into one place this cuts my browsing time in half especially when it allows you to add subscriptions to Google Reader. I believe Google in the next couple of years will be the cornerstone of the internet. They have elevated the way one use the internet with all the different tools. Using RSS feeds in my content area would help teachers grow in technology as a Educator any use of technology has its benefits. We now live in digital age where our students are online daily. Through webcams and social networking sites students are more equipped with the tools to be more productive digitally. We must continue to steer them in the right direction to succeed. Some of the sites I subscribed to are sites I view alot professionally and or leisurely. At the moment the sites that were added are ESPN, Stronger-Team Blog, AAHPERD, CoachingULive which is basketball related and Youtube which is probably the most used site by anyone. There are more I like and I'll update them later.

E-Tools for Schools

Searching some of these sites were I thought quite eventful, navigating back and forth trying to find something related to my content of Physical education was very interesting. The site I had most fun with was ide@s which stands for interactive dialogue with educators across the state. This site has an array of resources which range from videos, original lessons, science related topics, news events and image ideas. One of my favorites I like very much was guides@s , using this tool would benefit one in as simply traveling across the world and viewing famous landmarks of different sports teams and Olympic stadiums. Imageidea@s was the most used resource available on this site, pictures can really speak a thousand words. With each image students can form a sports collage of some of their favorite images which can show students the different venues, demonstrations and history of some of their favorite sports or teams. The history of each image would tell when, where, why, what, and how it was created for along with how its has impacted the world of sports. They also have listed the most valuable resource of all which is AAHPERD the elite organization for Physical Educators, this site has tons of information one could use ranging from lessons, games and meeting other colleagues across the nation. Annual conferences are held all over the U.S. each year. One other site in particular I enjoyed was the e-Learning for kids, however it only goes up to 6th grade but the information given on this site in the Health Education category could give me another reference to use when looking in getting students to gain a better understanding of the human body, I love the neat illustrations it use to teach the students and the diagrams to show how each body part work. This site I would send to all my cohorts who teach K-6 they would really enjoy this site.
