Googly Docs

As I read and viewed the video and article on Google Docs I like the idea on how it makes everything convenience when doing a presentation (slide show) for a school inservice, completing spreadsheets for each academic department to show progress in their content area and also uploading files to send throughout the entire school for easier viewing. Schools can benefit from decreasing the amount of paper used in the building, pushing teachers to utilize and interact online with their colleagues and posting their subjects curriculum in document form for it to be viewed by all. Teachers and administrators could raise the bar and create all documents on google docs which could change the way we use technology, in doing so each teacher must buy-in into doing this. We have the power to change the way we educate our students. By incorporating these tools in our class setting students now will feel at ease I think in using and creating better material and expressing their ideas the way they know how, and in turn it will challenge us to take a step further in teaching. I actually like how Google has taken the necessary steps in creating more resources for use in the world of technology.

The Wiki Creation Process

This was probably the most trying assignment I've done so far. First problem was remembering my password I believe I typed it 30 different times whewwww! It took me a while to figure out how to switch each page going from settings to managing wiki and back to my front page. When I realized all I had to do was go to edit and post to my wiki page. Along with my many struggles the navigation piece going from page to page gave me the hardest time sometimes it would take me to someone else's page, but my user name would still be listed at the top like it belong to me-I guess this must be the way you are allowed to switch over and edit. After while I began to see how everything work and it became a little easier to use. The educational links really guided me on what each wiki page look liked, there are some really nice wiki spaces out there. I haven't seen one geared toward Physical Education unless I didn't look hard enough but if not then I'm going to try and create one for my department and see where it may go from there. The wiki space can be beneficial in all classroom settings I think, with the proper etiquette and professionalism students can have fun with the uses of wiki and explore new ways to enhance each other pages.

Fitness Nuggets (The early bird gets the worm)

Nutrition is a very important key to living, with so many choices to make when it comes to your health everything is truly is important.  I was reading a fitness related magazine on running it was talking about the Gatorade series 1,2,3 its very popular among athletes who perform all the time. It stated "100 trillion cells" , 600 muscles, 206 bones and 22 internal organs. Each series of Gatorade is geared toward your whole body, as I read further I thought this is a really good scientific way of getting the body to really prime, refuel and recover from the rigors of competition or exercising. Hmmmmm... what about the average working Joe who just don't have the time. Let's see, start out by eating a healthy breakfast this not only refuel your body but also jump-starts your day and may even benefit your overall health. So don't skip this meal. Well what are some healthy breakfast foods:

Healthy Breakfast Foods
  • Whole grains. Include whole-grain rolls, bagels, hot or cold whole-grain cereals, low-fat bran muffins, crackers, or toast.
  • Low-fat protein. Include peanut butter, lean meat, poultry or fish, or hard-boiled eggs.
  • Low-fat dairy. Include skim milk, low-fat yogurt and low-fat cheeses, such as cottage and natural cheeses.
  • Fruits and vegetables. Include fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, 100 percent juice beverages without added sugar, or fruit and vegetable smoothies. Choose low-sodium versions of beverages, though.
Choose one or two options from each category to round out a healthy breakfast. With this start you'll be on the right track to a better you.

My Wiki Experience

My Wiki experience in the classroom would definitely raise my level of teaching, with the amount of information available posting and editing on wiki give students a more hands on experience with student teacher interaction. For example explaining the procedure's of weight lifting would make an easy transition for students comprehending safety, the do's and dont's and any other pertinent information. Also we could list
the different types of training for certain activities; circuit training, body weight training, fartlek training and power lifting.

A blog is a sharing website that you can personalize and discuss a variation of topics people can comment or reblog your post and discuss your topic. This involves pictures, multimedia, videos, music and text. A Wiki is website that allows you to write and collaborate with others about a topic or edit someone else's to give more information of that subject and you don't have to sign up to participate. A Wiki lends more in depth information about a topic like biographies, architecture, and common history. I am excited that I learned more information about the differences between a wiki and a blog. I was scared that I wouldn't be a able to give a thorough explanation of the difference between a wiki and a blog. I was confused about the setup of a wiki and the navigation process of commenting on other blogs. I want to know more about creating a wiki page and what contributions I can give to other wiki pages.

RE: Great Concept

This is such a great concept for a blog.  I am sure your parents, students, and other educators will obtain a lot of useful information from this site.  I especially love the fitness nuggets.  As collaborators find articles of interest I am sure they will link to them.  I plan to visit often.  Have you thought about adding tips on eating healthy foods? One of my favorite sites is World's Healthiest Foods.

Fitness Nuggets

I thought of something new I want to start doing. I thinking about giving information on fitness weekly or daily depending on how much time I have in my busy schedule. Fitness Nuggets I will call it and thier will be tidbits about nutrition and exercising. Their are millions of sites that are already doing this...Hmmm what can I do to really set myself apart from others only time will tell but I will think of something, its just the start of a new journey.

Creating Interest and Meaning

I think you hit the nail on the head by focusing on finding the right group of people who will find meaning in your blog.  As I contemplate using blogging in the classroom, I recognize that if it is not meaningful to the students and/or parent, the blog is not useful.  This has created a new focus as I consider implementing my blog.

Way to Go!

I loved the way you added videos! They will grab your students' interest!
Your color scheme is eyecatching. I will be interested to see how you use the blog as a PE teacher. I am sure you will be creative.

I agree that the step by step directions really helped. I want to set up some other blogs now as well. I have some other interests, like stamping, aerobics and films. Great way to connect.

New to Blogging

I tried several times during the past year to set up a blog.  I thought Edublog was easier, but after returning to my blank blog page, I found there are so many more edit and design features that make it simpler to dive into becoming a blogger.

Great Job!

Thanks for getting your blog setup and ready to go!
