As I read and viewed the video and article on Google Docs I like the idea on how it makes everything convenience when doing a presentation (slide show) for a school inservice, completing spreadsheets for each academic department to show progress in their content area and also uploading files to send throughout the entire school for easier viewing. Schools can benefit from decreasing the amount of paper used in the building, pushing teachers to utilize and interact online with their colleagues and posting their subjects curriculum in document form for it to be viewed by all. Teachers and administrators could raise the bar and create all documents on google docs which could change the way we use technology, in doing so each teacher must buy-in into doing this. We have the power to change the way we educate our students. By incorporating these tools in our class setting students now will feel at ease I think in using and creating better material and expressing their ideas the way they know how, and in turn it will challenge us to take a step further in teaching. I actually like how Google has taken the necessary steps in creating more resources for use in the world of technology.
You are so right, once schools push teachers and administrators to use the technology instead of paper, classroom use will follow suit. Once teachers are pushed they will begin to see the applications of the technology in their classroom. But it will take a big push because I know my administrator is still WAY behind the technology eight ball! I think the recession will help us in that way because the technology is cheaper than maintaining paper and copy machines.
ReplyDeleteHas someone figured out how to use Google DOC'S to replace or improve faculty meetings. I agree that goole Doc's can be used by students to communiate and collabrate assignments. I see a tremendous upside in schools incorporating google Doc's.
ReplyDeleteStephen you are SO RIGHT!!! However while teachers are getting used to technology I have yet to work for an administrator that actually uses technology. Google Docs plus YouTube could actually eliminate the need for wasteful meetings! I figure they can upload what they need to tell us, track if we watch it and create surveys or feedback forms in Google Docs.
