My Wiki Experience

My Wiki experience in the classroom would definitely raise my level of teaching, with the amount of information available posting and editing on wiki give students a more hands on experience with student teacher interaction. For example explaining the procedure's of weight lifting would make an easy transition for students comprehending safety, the do's and dont's and any other pertinent information. Also we could list
the different types of training for certain activities; circuit training, body weight training, fartlek training and power lifting.

A blog is a sharing website that you can personalize and discuss a variation of topics people can comment or reblog your post and discuss your topic. This involves pictures, multimedia, videos, music and text. A Wiki is website that allows you to write and collaborate with others about a topic or edit someone else's to give more information of that subject and you don't have to sign up to participate. A Wiki lends more in depth information about a topic like biographies, architecture, and common history. I am excited that I learned more information about the differences between a wiki and a blog. I was scared that I wouldn't be a able to give a thorough explanation of the difference between a wiki and a blog. I was confused about the setup of a wiki and the navigation process of commenting on other blogs. I want to know more about creating a wiki page and what contributions I can give to other wiki pages.

  1. I think that you have found a way to implement wikis in a manner that shows just how versatile they are. Prior to reading your post, I could see using wikis in the content classes, but had never considered the ability to use wikis in physical education of sporting events. I think that I could have used a wiki this year as our soccer team made the playoffs. With the ever-changing schedule, it would have allowed us to continually update the schedule and provide the players and their parents information without having to chance anyone referring to inaccurate, outdated information. With wikis, the information is edited. The outdated information is changed and no longer exists.

  2. I agree with Pamela, you have absolutely captured a great idea for use of a wiki in your P.E. classes. I think it would be beneficial for the students especially with the do's and don'ts. I think also the students could update their progress throughout the semester in class and track their growth. You could also use it as a venue to introduce the idea of different types of exercise be it water jugs for weights etc. You are getting better and better at the technology!

  3. I think it would be a great idea to have a wiki about weight training. It would be a great resource for all of your students to have the background info. of what weights to use to tone various muscles along with the actual experience of working with the weights.

  4. Thank you for the clear explanations of both a Wiki and a Blog. I too found it a little confusing on how to set up a Wiki page. The creation of the blog was much easier for me. I agree with Pamela when she noted the versatility of the Wiki. The Wiki allows for a lot of input, which means one would have to monitor it regularly to ensure the correct information is posted. Especially when you are talking about safety and different training activities.
